WordPress & WooCommerce Development Retainers

Product inventory

For high-traffic websites where
performance, reliability and conversion matter

Our retainers are for WordPress and WooCommerce platforms where the website is part of daily business operations — processing orders, handling enquiries or driving bookings at volume.

This isn’t ad-hoc development. It’s a structured, ongoing relationship with a dedicated delivery owner, reserved monthly capacity and the kind of proactive technical oversight that keeps high-demand platforms performing reliably.

If downtime, slow load times or a broken checkout have a measurable cost, this is the right level of support.

We’re experienced in supporting platforms under real load, making ongoing improvements while protecting live traffic and order flow. Changes are prioritised carefully and delivered with an understanding of how even small adjustments can affect conversion and revenue.

We’re used to working on live platforms where changes are carefully planned, communicated and delivered without disruption.

  • WooCommerce platforms with ongoing order volume
  • Checkout, payment and conversion journey refinement
  • Plugin and extension compatibility management
  • Performance and stability under real traffic

Is a development retainer right for you?

A retainer works best when your website has ongoing development needs rather than a single defined project — when there’s always something to improve, optimise or build next.

It’s particularly well-suited to WooCommerce stores with regular order volume, WordPress platforms used for lead generation or bookings, and businesses with internal teams who need reliable external development capacity.

If you’re not sure whether a retainer or a one-off project is the better fit, our WordPress development services page covers ad-hoc and project-based work.

WordPress Development Retainer FAQs

What’s the difference between a Care Plan and a development retainer?

Care Plans focus on site stability — updates, backups, monitoring and security. Development retainers focus on ongoing improvements, fixes and technical problem-solving. Many clients use both.

Who drives priorities at each retainer level?

Foundation is client-led. Growth is shared, with proactive input from us. Embedded includes more JMJ-led planning and oversight.

How much work can we expect each month?

Work is delivered from a shared backlog in priority order, with steady progress aligned to your retainer level. We limit work-in-progress to maintain quality and momentum.

What happens if we need more work than fits into a month?

We’ll flag it early and help you decide whether to re-prioritise, defer items or increase capacity.

Do we need a Care Plan as well as a retainer?

In most cases, yes. Care Plans protect the site. Retainers improve it.

Is this suitable for non-ecommerce websites?

Yes, provided the site generates regular enquiries, bookings or conversions and is business-critical.
